Research and Education Component

The goal of the Research Education Component (REC) of the Massachusetts Center for Alzheimer and dEmeNtia behaVIoral reSearch In minOrity agiNg (Mass-ENVISION) is to support the growth of early career investigators underrepresented in medicine (UiM) in the space of behavioral health interventions for Alzheimer’s disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) for NIA priority populations.

The REC provides pilot funding to three UiM investigators annually who will be provided with tailored, interdisciplinary training opportunities and mentoring to ensure their sustained success. The REC activities are aligned with the overarching theme of the Mass-ENVISION – behavioral intervention development, testing and implementation for NIA priority populations with or at risk for dementia, their caregivers and dyads in hospital and community settings, using the NIH stage model, the Science of Behavior Change, the NIA Health Disparities Framework and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and National Academy of Medicine (NAM) prevention models.

This REC leverages the wealth of resources, expertise and funded research studies of our interdisciplinary Mass-ENVISION faculty, the expertise and resources of the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Research Center (MADRC), the Boston University Alzheimer’s Research Center (BU-ADRC) and additional Boston area collaborators. It is built upon MADRC and BU-ADRC which are focused primarily on stage 0 research and shares resources, mentorship and training opportunities
